About The King Is Gone

Luke Austin Fronefield
Luke Fronefield is a writer whose films “The Meter Man of Le Moutrechon” and “El Mar Y El” have played and won at festivals around the world, including Miami International Film Festival, Shanghai International Film Festival, Canes Fest, and others. Luke wants to write a novel, but the proliferation of e-readers at the expense of good old-fashioned paperbacks makes him less ambitious about this endeavor. The reality of military drone warfare and prospect of drone grocery deliveries also perturbs him. But while today’s headline on the Yahoo homepage “Watch Two Huge Container Ships Crash into Each Other” fills him with all sorts of existential befuddlement, the headline also makes Luke somewhat less anxious about the pace and inevitability of our future humanoid existence.

Luke loves sports—especially football, basketball and baseball. As a child, Luke met George Steinbrenner in the owner’s box where he declined (proudly) the gift of a Yankees hat, remarking (spastically), “I’m a Mets fan!” Steinbrenner gritted his teeth. This was Luke’s favorite personal sports story UNTIL he witnessed firsthand the famous Endy Chavez catch in Game 7 of the NLCS. The Mets lost, and so Steinbrenner remained Luke’s favorite personal sports story UNTIL recently one late night while doing laps at the Biltmore Hotel pool Luke overheard the fiery voice of a man critiquing his swimming skills. And it was George Steinbrenner! Just kidding. It was Richard Sherman. Here’s a photo.

Luke’s trying to get into soccer so he can mitigate some of the symptoms associated with post-Super Bowl withdrawal.  Maybe the Heat can help? Luke is especially excited about this year’s Lebron-less Miami Heat team, which has the chance to be mediocre… or make history. The King is Gone… LONG LIVE MIAMI!
